Outpost Installation Guide – Step by Step

Outpost's installation procedure is very easy. In this installation guide we will help you with the installation and explain all the necessary steps to install Outpost. The following instructions are valid for installing Outpost Security Suite Pro. If you are installing Outpost Firewall Pro or Outpost Antivirus Pro you may experience minor differences in the installation procedure, but most of the steps will be same. Let's start!

Before you start

On this screen you can also choose whether you want to join the ImproveNet community. ImproveNet is a system that collects configurations of Outpost products' users so that Agnitum security experts can analyse the rules Outpost users use and create new automatic rules and settings that are distributed back to the community. The goal of the system is to make Outpost recognize as many legitimate applications as possible and prevent unnecessary popups. It can also be used to distribute certain application rules to Outpost users in case a new vulnerability is found or during mass virus infection. Unless you uncheck the checkbox on this screen, your Outpost will join the ImproveNet community.

In order to continue you have to click Accept.

Step 3 – Mode Selection

The next step is to select whether you want to run Outpost in the Simple mode or in the Expert mode:
Type selection

Your choice will affect the installation process as well as the initial configuration of your Outpost. We recommend you to choose the Simple mode because in this mode Outpost will automatically handle almost all security related situations that will happen on your computer. The Expert mode should be used by advanced users only. In the Expert mode, Outpost will ask you for your decision when a security related situation arises on your computer. In order to make right decisions in the Expert mode, you are assumed to have expert knowledge about computer security and operating system.

If you select the Expert mode, the installation wizard will offer you additional screens where you can setup which components of Outpost Security Suite Pro you want to install, into which location Outpost will be installed, whether Outpost should update itself during the installation process, and whether the rules for well-known applications should be created automatically or not. Then the installation process will continue as in case of the Simple mode selection.

Step 4 – Extracting Files and Installing Components

Now you have to wait until the installation wizard extracts installation files and installs support libraries and product components. Then it automatically performs the product update so that you are protected against the latest malware. Finally, your system is scanned and SmartScan data is created. The SmartScan data are used during all future scans of your computer making the scanning extremely fast. It works on a principle of storing the details of previous scans in order to avoid rechecking the files that had already been scanned and had not changed since the last scan.
Type selection

When everything is done, click Finish.

The installation is almost complete. The last thing to do is to restart your computer: Restart
